In the first part of this experimental art film series, Star delves into the natural world through her unique lens, juxtaposing video footage of organic environments with abstract digital art.
Visually, the film employs a monochromatic palette for the real-world footage to highlight the fundamental role of light in our perception of color. Black-and-white footage of organic landscapes serves as a canvas for colorful, abstract digital overlays. This duality mirrors the dichotomy between our everyday perceptions and the unseen energies that influence them. As viewers, we're invited to see the world anew, feeling like visitors in our own environment, where energy and frequency become the bridges between the tangible and the ethereal.
Sonically, the film features recordings from NASA's Mars missions, furthering the theme of interconnectedness by linking earthly nature with extraterrestrial environments. The ambient, otherworldly sounds underscore the film's meditative quality, inviting viewers to ponder the vibrational threads that connect all matter in the universe.
"Lux-O (organic): Frequencies of an Alien Perspective" sets the stage for the upcoming parts of the series, which will delve into anorganic and microscopic environments. Through her unique combination of video and digital abstraction, Sanja Star encourages viewers to engage with the hidden energies that shape our reality. It’s an intimate look at the frequencies that influence every aspect of our existence.

Hyksos Talks
Length: 1:41 min.
Medium: mixed media, experimental video + sound
Year: 2022
Synopsis:
R̳e̳c̳e̳i̳v̳i̳n̳g̳ ̳d̳a̳t̳a̳ ̳a̳n̳d̳ ̳s̳e̳n̳d̳i̳n̳g̳ ̳d̳a̳t̳a̳,̳ ̳a̳l̳s̳o̳ ̳k̳n̳o̳w̳n̳ ̳a̳s̳ ̳c̳o̳m̳u̳n̳i̳c̳a̳c̳i̳ó̳n̳.̳

The audiovisual piece talks about miscommunication, data noise and communication channels affected by time and place.
Inspired by ancient Egypt, a bygone human history that could only be speculated about. What would happen if we imagined the talk of Hyksos visually and musically as if there is no time and space? What if the past and the future lie at the same point?
"The Hyksos period marks the first in which Egypt was ruled by foreign rulers. Many details of their rule, such as the true extent of their kingdom and even the names and order of their kings, remain uncertain. They have been credited with introducing several technological innovations to Egypt." (Wikipedia)

METI 0-2 // [AV composition VII]
Length: 1:04 min.
Medium: mixed media, experimental video + sound
Year: 2021
Synopsis:
Artistic vision of SETI & METI - (Active Search and messaging for and to Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence) is the attempt to search send messages to intelligent extraterrestrial life. The science known as SETI (Active Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence) deals with searching for messages from aliens. METI (Messaging to Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence) deals with the creation and transmission of messages to aliens. In the paper Rationale for METI, transmission of the information into the Cosmos is treated as one of the pressing needs of an advanced civilization. This view is not universally accepted, and it does not agree to those who are against the transmission of interstellar radio messages, but at the same time are not against SETI searching. Such duality is called The SETI Paradox. Active SETI has been heavily criticized due to the perceived risk of revealing the location of the Earth to alien civilizations, without some process of prior international consultation. Notable among its critics was Stephen Hawking, and scientist and science fiction author David Brin, particularly in his article "expose." However, Russian and Soviet radio engineer and astronomer Alexander L. Zaitsev has argued against these fears. Indeed, Zaitsev argues that we should consider the risks of not attempting to contact extraterrestrial civilizations. In 2012, Jacob Haqq-Misra, Michael Busch, Sanjoy Som, and Seth Baum argued that while the benefits of radio communication on Earth likely outweigh the potential harms of detection by extraterrestrial watchers, the uncertainty regarding the outcome of contact with extraterrestrial beings creates difficulty in assessing whether or not to engage in long-term and large-scale METI. In 2015, João Pedro de Magalhães proposed transmitting an invitation message to any extraterrestrial intelligences watching us already in the context of the Zoo Hypothesis and inviting them to respond. By using existing television and radio channels, de Magalhães argued this would not put us in any danger, "at least not in any more danger than we are already if much more advanced extraterrestrial civilizations are aware of us and can reach the solar system." Douglas Vakoch, president of METI, argues that passive SETI itself is already an endorsement of active SETI, since "If we detect a signal from aliens through a SETI program, there’s no way to prevent a cacophony of responses from Earth." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_...

FRB-07 // (AV composition III)
Length: 2:57 min.
Medium: mixed media, experimental video + sound
Year: 2020
Synopsis:
Artistic take on FRB (Fast Radio Burst). Except coming from a rapidly rotating celestial body, like a magnetar or quasar it's believed also that fast radio bursts could be of extraterrestrial origin. Originally, the bursts were thought to be the product of a massive, one-time cosmic event like the formation of a black hole from the collision of two neutron stars, but the recurrence of the bursts over the years negates that theory. Other theories have posited that it could be the result of matter being sucked into a black hole, but it seems like with all of our research on black holes, we would have experienced this phenomenon before, having trained telescopes on areas where black holes have been found. And while most scientific stalwarts have rejected the ETI hypothesis, there hasn’t yet been a solid practical explanation. The first FRB (Fast Radio Burst) was discovered in 2007. In recent years, new telescopes and greater interest have seen a motherlode of FRB's discovered. In 2019, the CHIME collaboration discovered a new set of eight repeating bursts for follow-up analysis. It's hoped by studying the repeating bursts, astronomers will be able to shed light on these mysterious signals.

Zeta // (AV composition IV)
Length: 5:45 min.
Medium: mixed media, experimental video + sound
Year: 2019
Synopsis:
The galaxy is vast, but on a whole still uncharted. It is separated into quadrants and sectors and most important - wormholes, sort of tunnels that joins distant points in space, or even two universes, via space-time curvature. Zeta is a composition recorded in 2019 at the largest ex radio station in East Germany, Funkhaus Berlin, during a two day mourning studio sessions. It’s part of the bigger recording with other Galaxy inspired tracks (Alpha, Beta, Delta Eridani and Xindi). Zeta composition closely describes an imaginary transgalactic journey from Bajoran wormhole to its far unexplored destination Zeta quadrant. With itself extended technique of the primary acoustic instruments for this given composition, in addition to artists unique sonic creations, Zeta composition as audio-visual creation presents travelling through so called Bajoran wormhole - an artificial construct built by the beings known to the Bajoran people as the Prophets, with a terminus in the Alpha Quadrant in the Denorios Belt of the Bajor system and another less than five light-years from the Idran system in the Gamma Quadrant, approximately 70,000 light-years distant. The wormhole was of major religious significance to the Bajorans, who called it the Celestial Temple. For the most part of the Galaxy, Zeta Quadrant is the most unexplored. Theoretically, Zeta composition recreates traveling through such a tunnel traversed from one point in space to another without actually traveling the distance between them.
